    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- The new president of the International Mission Board preached June 11 at the 38th annual meeting of the Council of Korean Southern Baptist Churches in America, or Korean Council.

    IMB President Paul Chitwood spoke Tuesday evening, June 11, at First Baptist Church in Pleasant Grove, Ala., a Birmingham suburb, where about 700 people had gathered for the Korean Council. He spoke during a three-hour "Missions Celebration" during the three-day Korean meeting, which takes place each year in the same city as the SBC annual meeting. Read More

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP) -- International Mission Board President Paul Chitwood is slated among the speakers Tuesday evening, June 11, during the annual meeting of the Council of Korean Southern Baptist Churches in America.

    The gathering -- known informally as the "Korean Council," encompassing about 800 churches that worship in a Korean context -- will be June 10-13 at First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove, a suburb west of Birmingham, Ala. The council meets each year in conjunction with the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting, set for June 11-12 at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. Read More

    CARROLLTON, Texas (BP) -- The world is the common denominator -- and the focus of prayer -- for an array of ministries of Semihan Church in Carrollton, Texas, site of the 2018 annual meeting of the Southern Baptist fellowship known informally as the "Korean Council."

    Even Semihan's name reflects the link: "Se" is part of a Korean word for world; "mi" is part of a word for the United States, and "Han" is found in a word for Korea.

    Semihan's ministries include special needs, refugee, American Indian, Bangladeshi and Korean people groups. New this fall is an outreach to English-speaking Americans who are friends, neighbors and coworkers of the 1,600 adult Koreans who worship each week at the church. Read More

    CARROLLTON, Texas (BP) -- More than 900 Korean leaders and their families heard International Mission Board President David Platt's challenge to reach the world during the annual gathering of the Council of Korean Southern Baptist Churches in America.

    The fellowship, known informally as the Korean Council and encompassing 850 Korean-language churches, meets for three days each year in the same city and same week as the SBC annual meeting. Tuesday afternoon is left free and bus transportation is provided so the Koreans can participate in the day's session of the SBC annual meeting and vote for the next SBC president. Read More

    DALLAS (BP) -- Discussions about helping pastors get started with a retirement plan and mentoring younger pastors are on the agenda of the Council of Korean Southern Baptist Churches in America's annual meeting in Dallas.

    The Korean Council's June 11-13 sessions, which take place during the week of the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting and related gatherings, will be hosted by Semihan Church in Carrollton, where Byeong Rack Choi is pastor. Read More
